Locales

How did it become appropriate to meet at a sports event? I don’t mean a professional sporting even (Flames, Stamps, what have you), I mean your child’s sporting event. I’m not sure that the latter is any better, either.

If you wanted to meet me and I suggested, “Sure, let’s meet at XYZ Coffee shop. Oh, by the way, I’m going to bring a book that I’ll be reading. Feel free to talk to me as I read. I may or may not be able to catch the gist of what you are saying.”

I understand that people are busy. I’m busy too. But I don’t do that to you; why would you suggest such a thing to me?

Or, is it that you find your child’s events so uninteresting that you are trying to “get something done” instead of sitting there “uselessly” otherwise.

I’ll even let you pick of the two options:

  • You’re picking a location where you will give me 10% of your attention

  • You’re trying to keep your time watching your child grow/learn/perform from being a waste

Neither seems good to me.
